      One of the important institutions of this city to the owners of horses, thoroughbred cattle, fine dogs, etc., is the veterinary hospital and transient feed barn located at 118 South Main Street. This business was established in 1907 and has gained a large trade. Veterinary surgery in all its branches is practiced, the work being executed exclusively by Dr. Eliot & Son, who are both practical graduate veterinary surgeons as well as painstaking conscientious business men. Ample facilities and accommodations for taking care of injured or diseased stock is at hand, the hospital being furnished with operating tables, stocks, swings and padded stalls. Dr. D. W. Eliot was born in Illinois in 1850, and there educated. Dr. H. C. Eliot was born in Missouri in 1885. He is a graduate of the Kansas City Veterinary College. Both gentlemen are highly esteemed as professional men of rare ability as well as public spirited citizens.

      Mr. P. F. Brophy is the proprietor and active head of the Nevada Marble Works, with offices and work rooms at 129 South Main Street. This business was established in 1888 and has since that time been headquarters in this city and vicinity for manufacturing and installing of monuments, corner stones and all else where marble and granite are used. The work rooms are equipped with the latest improved machinery and appliances for the careful execution of work according to designs which are furnished at moderate prices. Work is executed in any part of the country by skilled mechanics. Mr. P. F. Brophy was born in New York. He received his education in Missouri and has followed this line of business for the past twenty years which long experience makes him |
fact the latest approved style in all furniture of every description. A fine line of carpets, rugs, draperies and window shades are also carried. Goods in all lines are conservatively selected and purchased in large quantities, this firm taking advantage of discounts and depressions in the market, and quoting prices which the average competitor cannot hope to equal. Two floors, 25x180 feet are utilized in the displaying of this beautiful stock of furniture. A wareroom 25x80 feet is used in storing the reserved stock. The stock carried is the largest to be found in this section of the country, with prices and terms which compare favorably with those found in the larger cities.       Nevada is well supplied with modern and up-to-date stores, prominent among which is the Turpin Furniture Company, located on the south side of the square. This business became established in 1890, and has been operated at this location since 1905. The business is conducted under the direct supervision and management of Mr. L. H. Turpin, Jr., and Mr. C. P. Dauwalder. The business has shown a decided increase with each succeeding year and stands in a class by itself when compared with, similar institutions. The line of goods carried comprises handsome and substantially made parlor suites, chiffioners, dressers, dining room tables, chairs of all kinds, beds and in |
handsomely arranged in the city. Mr. L. H. Turpin is an experienced window trimmer and interior decorator, having been instructed in this art in both the University of Missouri, and in St. Louis. The display window is rearranged at regular intervals. The finest in furniture and the best styles are always seen at this place and this window holds the attention of all, owing to its arrangement and harmonious uniformity. Undertaking and embalming are also executed, funeral arrangements are made and bodies embalmed for immediate burial or shipment. A fine line of church goods and burial clothing is also carried. This business became so large that in 1909 it was incorporated for $20,000. Mrs. Turpin is president, and Mr. L. H. Turpin, Jr., secretary and treasurer. Mr. C. P. Dauwalder, vice-president. Mr. L. H. Turpin, Jr., and Mr. C. P. Dauwelder are among the most successful business men of this city and hold one of the most prominent positions in the commercial standing of our city.
