Mr. W. J. McElwain was born in Jericho Springs, Missouri, in 1884 and there, educated. He is a member of the M. B. A.           Located at 202 South Cedar Street and established
in 1894, can be found one of the firms of this city successfully engaged
in the handling of lumber and building material. The stock is immense
and complete in every detail. The quality of this material has made and
kept the business. They get the cream from the producer, purchasing only
from the best manufacturers, paying a premium if necessary, but always
having on hand the best the market affords. Quality is the first consideration,
and should be yours when buying. The line carried includes moulding, doors,
sash, spindles, brackets, columns, plate rails, screen doors, cement,
plaster, lime, sand, tile and fittings, paints, oils and leads, building
paper, roofing and a general line of the best lumber and building material
to be found in this section. This company makes the best prices; the reason
they do is because they are satisfied with a reasonable profit and doing
a large business. One-fourth of a block is occupied by the yard and warehouses
which are well appointed to meet the requirements of a discriminating
public. Mr. E. L. Wood, the manager of this lumber company, was born in
this county in 1874. He became connected with this firm in 1894 and has
been employed in this capacity for the past eight years. He is a member
of the M. B. A. and Ben Hur. He is a man of pleasing personality and highly
esteemed in this city by all who know him.

          The magnitude of the manufacturing establishments of Nevada only become apparent when a thorough disclosure is made of the capabilities and resources of each individual establishment. To present to the outside world and to those who may be in quest of a thrifty location in which to establish a business we shall depict the important array of wealth and enterprise engaged in developing Nevada and vicinity. One to which we wish to call special attention is the W. F. Norman Sheet Metal Manufacturing Company, whose immense plant is located on North Cedar Street. The premises utilized are thoroughly equipped with the latest modern machinery suggested by years of experience and inventive ingenuity. Sixty skilled mechanics are employed. The products manufactured are Patent Galvanized Roof Crestings, Hip Shingles, Skylights, Steel Ceilings, Roofings, Gutters, Valleys, etc. They are also jobbers in Tin Plate, etc. This is one of the largest and most ably conducted institutions of this charter in the state. The officers of this firm are W. F. Norman, president and treasurer, and J. H. Berghauser, vice-president and secretary.           The wholesale handling of poultry, butter and eggs is one of the important industries of this locality and the above named firm have been prominent in this territory for the past two years, when they became established. The business consists of purchasing goods in this line for the eastern markets. The poultry, butter and eggs are classed and shipped in car load lots to those places. A large force of skilled employees are kept busy during season dressing and packing these goods for shipment. The offices and store rooms occupy 5,000 square feet of floor space, which has been arranged to meet the requirements of an extensive business. Located as they are on the M. K. & T. and Mo. Pac. railroad tracks, excellent shipping facilities are afforded with no delay in receiving or shipping goods. Mr. O. E. Reed, the active head of this firm, was born in Bolivar, |
Missouri in 1878. Mr. Fred White, one of the proprietors, was also born and raised in Bolivar, Mo. They always pay the highest cash prices for goods and afford every convenience consistent with conservatism to all with whom they deal. Mr. Reed is a member of the I. O. O. F. and M. W. A.           It is with a feeling of pride and pleasure that we look upon the development in recent years of the real estate interests of Nevada. This is due in a great measure to the alertness and ability of our business men who have done everything within their power to promote the industrail and commercial possibilities of the city and advertise its manifold resources to those living in other parts.
