J. D. INGRAM.

          The chief executive of Nevada, Mayor J. D. Ingram, is a fitting example of what American pluck, pertinacity and ability can accomplish. Mr. Ingram is a native of Chariton County, Missouri, having been born at that place in 1847. In 1861 his brothers took him to Texas, Mr. Ingram having two brothers living in that state who moved there two years previous to that time, his mother and father having died when he was very small. He was under the rule and care of his brothers when the war broke out. He ran away from school and enlisted. He served thirty months in the Confederate service before he was eighteen years of age. After following various pursuits he became located in Hale, Missouri, he was cashier of the Bank of Hale for eight years and in business in this city for fifteen years. Two years ago he was elected mayor of this city on the Democratic ticket. His competency, foresight,

and business acumen are attested by his success and rapid rise in both social and political fields. He has held a number of positions of trust during his residence in this city, and he has always discharged the duties which have devolved upon him in a highly satisfactory and commendable way. During his incumbency as mayor, many improvements have materialized and the moral tone and general condition of the town elevated and benefited. Mayor Ingram is a director in the First National Bank and is also connected with the Turpin & Ingram Furniture Company. He is Chancellor Commander of the K. of P., and president of the Confederate Soldiers' Home of Missouri at Higginsville, Missouri.

NEVADA AUTO & ELECTRIC WORKS.

          In making a review of the prominent institutions of Nevada it is the intention to hold up to public view only those institutions which have contributed toward the development of the commercial importance of the city and whose standing in their particular line of endeavor is of the highest. In this connection we can not speak too highly or make more particular mention of any one firm than that of the Nevada Auto & Electric Works. Mr. W. M. Gordon, the proprietor, established this business in 1905 on South Main Street. Owing to the honorable treatment of the trade and modern business methods employed, the business grew so rapidly and the work became so much in demand that four months ago he moved to his present location at the corner of Walnut and Washington Streets. This is a new building 42x80 feet, well appointed and especially designed to handle, store or repair automobiles and electrical machinery. He also carries a large line of electrical fixtures and appliances. Work in this line is executed including installing of plants, wiring of houses, etc. Mr. Gordon employs six skilled mechanics, all being experts. Repair work is handled, furnishing missing or broken parts for automobiles, steam or electrical machinery or engines. Mr. W. M. Gordon was born in Lewis County, Missouri, in 1875. He

is an electrician of distinction, having made a life study of this line. He is a valued member of the Masons, Elks and M. W. A.


PRYOR & COMPANY.

          Widely and favorably known throughout this city and vicinity for the genuineness and reliability of the goods carried is Pryor & Company, operating the North Side Market located on the north side of the square. The business conducted at this place can be better understood when it is stated that six courteous and quick assistants are required to wait on the trade and fill orders while two wagons are kept busy delivering the products to the city trade. A fine line of staple and fancy groceries, conservatively selected for their purity as well as flour, canned goods, fruit, vegetables, etc., are carried. The meat department of this store is also a very important factor, the best native beef and pork brought to the block and killed under the supervision of Mr. Pryor are among the inducements offered to the public. Smoked and dried meats, game, poultry, butter, kettle rendered lard, sausage, etc., and other by-products are also handled. The store is attractively arranged and is always kept in a clean and sanitary condition. Every consideration and convenience is shown the trade while honorable business methods, offering a guarantee of satisfaction have been their most valuable assets since this store was established in 1907. Mr. S. L. Pryor, the proprietor of this popular market, was born in Bates County, Missouri, in 1850. He received his education in this state and was previously engaged in farming. He is a member of the I. O. O. F., and has been identified in public life, having held the position of street commissioner for five years. During this term a large amount of improvements
